A compilation of some of the things I've been drawing recently for practice. I mixed in some of my older drawings as well. I find it immensely calming to illustrate biomorphic elements. I still want to keep refining the rendering and composition.
It's been a while, but I have to put my two cents in occasionally which is so very hard when you all have a gallery that has continued to grow into such an incredibly beautiful that is would take a good while to go through each piece and put down my thoughts.
I hope all of you are doing extremely well (tell Kat I said hi! she's as bad as me when it comes to getting on DA lol).
In the meantime, let me comment on this piece which out of the dozens I had to choose, I found I loved the most. I think all of your cosplay is incredible, but when you do art as such, I find I enjoy it even more because it's just you. And you're obviously really blossoming in that area.
I love the surrealsim. It's almost like drifting from a conscious state into a dreaming one (the more dripping, less defined images towards the top). In a physical sense, the bloom at the bottom looks just like my blooming tea (which means I must go make some)!
Back to the piece.
I feel almost like it's a dream, which turns out to blossom in real life, which then (playing off the element ocean at the bottom) brings me out into the sea of life (the ups and downs, the stills and the swells). It's really beautiful and definitely something I'd hang on my wall. Or even if I could make an overlay of your design? I'm working with a friend to find a way to lay images on thin metal and cut out and then have lighting backing it and all in a manner in which it can hang cleanly on a wall. This would be so gorgeous like that!
Anywho, wonderful work, I really hope you continue to do work like this....in the meantime I'll go back to geeking out over all of ya'lls incredible cosplay!
Kaitlin!!! I have no words for how happy I am to hear from you again! I was just recalling our conversations (and thinking about "the old days", hahah) the other day. I saw this comment so very late, though!
I cannot thank you enough for such warm, thoughtful insights about this piece. You make me feel a lot more confident about it, and I have been needing a little boost in that area lately. Thank you, thank you ever so much. <3
I will definitely send your regards to Kat! I'm sure she'll be delighted!
The first words that came out of my mouth (even though I'm alone..?!) were literally "Oh that's beautiful! " I love the simple elegance of the composition and colours, combined with the complexity of things like the chrysanthemum(?) and the wave elements. It's really pretty.
