Description
I was given the wonderful opportunity to be one of the select artists who would participate in Manila Contemporary's anniversary art exhibition — The Light Show, curated by Katya Guererro.
I chose to explore the way light can be manipulated to sort of paint a certain quality in photographs. I started out being trained as a traditional painter and I continue to love traditional art despite picking up digital media. I do my best to apply my painting aesthetics to my photography to get closer to discovering and developing my own style. I had planned out the elements in the photo to look similar to my illustrations. To add to the painterly feel, I had some sheer fabric billow behind my subject to simulate the look of paint washes.
This photo is one of five works that I currently have up on display at the gallery. My photographic series touches on the theme of ephemerality.
The Light Show opened last December 11, 2010 and the exhibit will be ongoing until January 16, 2011.

The Light Show stems from the belief that one may need to experience darkness to have a renewed appreciation of light. For this exhibit, Guerrero instructs the participating artists to re-discover light – its past, present and future – by asking the very simple question “What is light?” Although very simple, the quest to answer this has been a universal one – transcending historical periods, disciplines and cultures.
