Naruto Chapter 614: Goodbye, Old Friend

SPOILERS, SO MANY SPOILERS

(Mostly for people who only watch the anime! May it not be said I didn't warn you)

If you would like some background on this photo series, read on. Here's a summary of what happened in that manga chapter:

Uchiha Obito executes Mokuton: Sashiki no Jutsu (Wood Release: Cutting Technique) using the Ten-Tailed Beast, and rains down massive wooden spikes onto the Konoha ninja. The Hyugas are fighting hard to defend against the barrage of deadly projectiles, but the Ten-Tails pinpoints an attack towards a fallen Naruto. It is too fast for anyone to catch with their barrier techniques, so Hinata jumps in front of Naruto to use her body as a shield. However, someone else intercepts to take the fatal blows.

Naruto stares in disbelief over the realization that the genius of the Hyuga clan gave up his life to save him. With his final breaths, Neji speaks to Naruto.

"Hinata-sama is... willing to die for you, Naruto...
So keep in mind... that your life... is not your own... anymore
Now, it also... includes... mine."

I've mentioned before that the Naruto series has had a great impact on my being more understanding towards others. When Neji was first introduced, I hated him with a passion. I felt like there was no way I would ever grow to like this character. But as the story progressed and I learned more of how he came to be the way he was, I understood. And when eventually he allowed Naruto's words to change him, it made me feel that there is hope for people to redeem themselves if someone exerts enough effort to get through to them. Even if it is a person they used to look down upon. Everybody deserves a little understanding. I proved myself wrong and Neji became one of my favorites.

Upon reading this chapter in the manga, I felt like I had lost an old friend who taught me valuable lessons.

The three of us cosplaying for this shoot had a great attachment to Neji, so we wanted to do this shoot to say goodbye to an old friend. This is also the first time we've attempted something so emotional, so it was definitely a break from the norm. _{There was still a lot of laughing behind the scenes, though.}
