We had a random shoot for fun this week, and of the beautiful people I photographed is my friend Gabbi. We had studied in the same elementary and high school. One of the things I’ll always remember is how our schoolmates were always rowdy, but everyone would fall silent whenever she would go onstage to sing at assemblies. She has always been one of the kindest, most genuine people I know. And now she’s on her way to becoming a teacher.

I believe someone like Gabbi ought to be recognized for being a wonderful human being. What she wrote in her profile says a lot about her:

“I believe that beauty is one of the most natural things in the world, and thus, one of the easiest things to come by. It’s in her hair, it’s in his eyes, it’s in that beauty mark at the tip of your nose or the corner of your mouth. It could be what you like least about yourself — like your laugh or your teeth — which only proves how much beauty truly is in the eyes of the beholder. It’s in the kindness of a stranger, a few well-put words, a sense of humor, a song, the support of a friend.

Quite frankly, I don’t believe that photos and words can cover everything beautiful about each one of us — voters OR competition entries — but I do believe in encouraging people to grasp each beautiful moment and also to see what beauty lies in many many other people, which is why I like this competition. ”
