Picture-heavy Toycon Day 1 Report! Disney cosplay!Toycon 2011 (Day 1)
Here's my usual (ang getting increasingly late) report about the cons we attend!
We went as a Disney group last Toycon! And I just realized we don't have a decent complete group shot.

That's okay I guess because it's definitely not the last time we'll be wearing the costumes, and we all had things we wanted to improve. We have a habit of doing that with new cosplays — wear them to a con and observe pictures from it after to see what looked wrong or felt uncomfortable about the costumes or wigs or makeup. It's helpful! Some of our friends were also unable to join us for Toycon so we'll definitely be doing this again.

Most of the photos are from my camera but I borrowed some from friends and albums we were tagged in.

dA PRO Camera Bag
This is a rather late review, but better late than never! This has been my camera bag for a while — the dA PRO Camera Bag.
I find it just the right size to carry my essentials, without being too bulky. A lot of my camera-wielding friends with too-large backpacks have repeatedly expressed their envy.

Those straps on the front are for carrying tripods. They're removable if you don't need them.

Plug: Contact Lens Promo + Donation ProjectsI've been lacking in online updates lately because I've been focusing on doing illustration and design work. Productivity is great, but sometimes I also crave for a bit of quiet time to write journal entries. At least this week I'll be starting on preparations for a new group cosplay with my friends for next month.

The weekend after, a few of us got together to do a studio shoot because we were just excited, and I wanted to finally try out a pseudo movie poster photo treatment for cosplay photos. It was definitely a challenge. But it made me really happy to show my friends how the final images turned out.

On misunderstandings about cosplayThis is a topic I've been meaning to talk about for quite a while now. I finally got the motivation to when Sarah ~sorairo-days emailed me to share my thoughts on what cosplay means to me, and what I feel it really means to be a cosplayer despite all the misconceptions about the hobby. Over the years, I've witnessed how cosplayers are constantly looked down upon, which makes people apprehensive towards it. It's such a shame because it's a wonderful and rewarding hobby which brings people together. And in general, I am firmly against making anyone feel bad about doing something they want to do.

A couple of weeks ago, we attended an event called Fantasy Quest 2. (The very first Fantasy Quest was when we cosplayed Harry Potter characters.)
It was a pretty special day for us because four years ago, we had our first shoot and bonding day with Ysabel ~SavingSunlight at the venue, Fernwood Gardens.
We've been really into Adventure Time, so many months ago we decided we'd do AT cosplay, and that Fantasy Quest would be a fun opportunity to do so.

It feels weird how we had been looking forward to this event for ages, and now it's over!

Just to be absolutely clear, I do not think the views make me any better than anyone else. I mean, I'm sure some of those are from people who don't even like me. But I guess my point is that it's crazy to imagine that this page has been opened up that many times, and I can't help wondering where all these hits have come from. FANIME CON 2008 REPORT (Part 1)I don't even know how I'm going to write a decent introduction for this but let me say that OH MAN WE HAD SUCH A GREAT TIME AT FANIME I HOPE WE CAN GO BACK! And... I TOLD YOU I WAS SHORT! Also, this entry is going to be really loooooooong. And this is just the first installation!
Sorry I couldn't update sooner! I've been wanting to make this post since right after Fanime but after that I spent a couple of days catching up on sleep and going around San Francisco, then it was time to fly off to Maryland to visit my cousins who dragged me over to New York right after I got there. Now we're back in Maryland, and I can have my quiet time.

I was actually feeling kinda down right before we left. I'm just very sentimental when it comes to departures, I guess. Ever since vacation started, I spent a lot of time with my friends, and I couldn't help thinking about how much I'd miss them while I was on the other side of the world.

AME 8th Avenue: Jin's Report!
November 8, 2008: A conclusion to the week during which the gods had forsaken us though at the last minute appeared to have changed their minds and went back on our side again.
I lost so much sleep last week, haha. Con and costume preparations really ate up my time. And my costume almost didn't make it for rage-inducing reasons ;alfjkawlefjal;wfjalskdf
Skit practice was actually my saving grace at the time. Far from being another source of stress, it was the one thing that kept me sane. I love how drama-free my fellow ninjatards are. We'd always manage to make each other's sides split from laughing, and it was touching to see how dedicated everyone was to learning their parts. Yeah, even that god-forsaken ending bit. (You'll see in the video.) Hahaha. And while resting we'd all just break in

Last Saturday was the first day of the Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention 2009. ToyCon was the first con we started going to regularly, so it's kind of been a tradition among us friends to attend.
Kat ~moonlightflight, China !snowpeachdrop, Miguel ~merkymerx, Ysabel and I wore our Rurouni Kenshin costumes, and we were all very happy that JM ~angrylittleboy was able to come hang out with us. He's our favorite Saitou.

Charmie ~yaoiangel14 showed her love for Macross in the new Sheryl Nome outfit she made. I think it's my favorite of all her work.

Dom ~Weakman, Rayson ~sinag-araw and EJ ~Dinkyass were in crack cosplay again, as you will see better later on.

The Host Club is now open! (updated)Ouran High School Host Club
We recently had an Ouran High School Host Club photoshoot, organized by ~Cyfliq. It started out as a Honey-sempai & Mori pictorial for Ysabel !Ken-chan-Byakushi and Kune ~kunebitt, and she invited the rest of us to come hang out during the shoot. We said we'd be glad to help out with taking pictures and anything else, and later figured that we could join in as characters as well.

The rest of us didn't have a lot of time to prepare their uniforms so we just used casual clothes we already had. So yeah, sorry about the outfit and wig inconsistencies for now. This was just closet cosplay for a lot of us, haha.
That day was a lot of fun but we're also looking forward to the second Ouran shoot with a slightly different cast and proper costumes. Hopefully we get to do more than the usual school uniforms since the Host Club cosplays as well.

Ozine has always been fun and memorable for us. I think part of it is because it's usually held at the end of the schoolyear, and it's a great reward after all that work.

This time we went as a Bleach group again. China !snowpeachdrop was Rukia again, in her Shinigami clothes. Kat ~moonlightflight retained her role as Orihime, in her Hueco Mundo dress. Miguel ~merkymerx decided to be Grimmjow, and for the sake of relevance, I agreed to be Ulquiorra even though I wasn't entirely sure I'd be able to pull it

Harry Potter cosplay tomfoolery at Fantasy Quest

Fantasy Quest 2011

Many, many months ago last July (that's how late this entry is) a cosplay event was held in the most beautiful location that the local cosplay community has ever seen. Fernbrook Gardens — the wedding & events destination which you might recognize from our Kuroshitsuji

It was around that time that the world was getting ready for the final Harry Potter movie, so my friends and I decided that perhaps it was about time to push through with our plans to cosplay Harry Potter characters. Parts of Fernbrook Gardens also looked like Hogwarts so we figured it would be appropriate.

Photos are from my friends, some from albums I was tagged in on Facebook, and some from my own camera.

Here I am with most of my friends that I went to the event with, along with Arnel ~akagii2004 whom we met that day as he was cosplaying Professor Snape. Lucky! We greatly enjoy meeting people who happen to be cosplaying the same series we are.

He caught our eyes because he was so incredibly in character the entire time — even when he was just looking around at what was happening around the event by himself. And when he walked around, the wind made his robes gently billow. We were admiring him like creepers before we finally approached him to join us if he wanted.

We also met Kevin (geekev.com) then. I was so happy to see another Harry cosplayer! It was cool to see how he had different touches on his costume, like the scarf. My Gryffindor friends were all wanting to steal it

We also met (another) Miguel then, who was with Kevin and dressed as Draco. We all laughed over his Potter Stinks! pin

I greatly enjoy seeing people add little touches like that. You can see Miguel in our big group photo:

And then we flew awayyyyyyy. Or something. I don't know what we were doing here.

Somehow this photo reminds me of the Harry Potter game on the PlayStation 1. I miss playing old games!

Without his glasses and with his scar concealed, we thought Kevin would make a great grown-up (and badass) Neville too! We were thankful he obliged when we asked him to be Neville for some photos.

Our friend ships Neville and Luna, so we wanted to get some pair shots for her as part of a birthday present. I found a nice spot for them to post at and here's what happened:

And then when we were all exhausted beyond reason, we all went back to my place and ordered pizzas which took so long to arrive that we were all starving and delirious and contemplating eating the pizza delivery guy alive if he had arrived a minute later but after a false alarm he did get there it was like BEST AND FASTEST DISAPPEARING PIZZAS EVER. The end!

I was working on this graphic, then saw the creative invite at Talenthouse to submit designs for SIGG water bottles. I thought this might look nice for that, so I simplified the design according to their specifications.

Here's my entry, which I gave the title Moonshadow. I illustrated images recalled by the fond memory of walking along the ocean shore at night. Inspiration was taken from woodblock prints.
