Lights Out Convention 2008
Last Saturday, I attended my first yaoi convention. It certainly was... interesting. Given the nature of the event, we dressed up accordingly by going as fanon yaoi pairs.

The obvious choice for me

was NaruSasu/SasuNaru (whichever you prefer).
We've been abusing the Shippuuden costumes for a while now so we did the ronin versions from the
Broken Youth ending.

Err... Well, it WAS a yaoi con after all.Let me just say that it was really breezy walking around in next to nothing but a robe. I actually should have left the top more open to show the bandages around the waist part as seen in the ending animation (linked above) but I should probably add clips and hooks on other parts of the robe to secure it on the rest of my body. I tried being accurate but it made the bottom part have this tendency to flap open and uh, nobody wants to see that.

Like I had mentioned in my previous journal entry, we got a table for this con. Everyone did their best to help out. It was stressful, but also rather fun and fulfilling.
We were all trying to make a bit of profit to help fund things like big school projects that involve book printing and studio shoots which both cost quite a lot. We agreed to help each other try to earn a bit of extra cash with the little things we're capable of doing. We figured we could also use some of the profit to fund the printing of those
photobooks for charity we were planning since we need a capital to get that project going.
It was just sort of a trial run, since it was our first time doing anything of the sort. That's why we only had limited numbers for our items. We had no idea they'd get sold out that fast. We'll be better prepared for next time! (Which will be on
CosplayMania; hope to see you there!)
That aside, it made us feel all warm and fuzzy inside whenever someone would come up to us and tell us how the Tux Team has been a source of inspiration, or that they had fulfilled a goal by simply meeting us. It was pretty overwhelming to be thought of as such, since we see each other as ordinary geeks who happen to be friends with each other. I felt guilty and embarrassed whenever I'd get asked to sign something because I thought myself unworthy of doing such a thing, but it would also be rude to decline. I've lost count of how many times I had heard, "THANK YOU I CAN DIE NOW" and every time I couldn't help but go, "Please don't!" even if they weren't completely serious.
At least, I hope they weren't.
This is what we named our table, making use of an old inside joke because of Kishimoto saying (joking, hopefully) that Naruto and Sasuke have a bigger chance of ending up together than with any of the girls in the series.
China and Kat had shirts for sale and took orders for the customized shoes, Miguel and I sold copies of our fanart collab, and... some joker made prints out of our cosplay photos. It was crazy. I heard some screams (hopefully not of utter disgust) by the table and went to see what was going on... only to see huge copies of our photos being waved around by Ice and Isa who had devious grins on their faces, which made them resemble the Hitachiin twins even more. So then Miguel and I looked at each other and made a silent agreement to RUN AWAY.
Man.... As if it weren't embarrassing enough to have our art prints there. It started out with Miguel suggesting that we make an art collab, and since it's a yaoi con, maybe he should draw Naruto and Sasuke. I sure was shocked when he handed me the line art that he asked me to color. Not quite what I had expected. But I promised I'd help so I went ahead and did it anyway. The result was...

To talk about something that does not involve yaoi, I just got myself a Revoltech Gurren Lagann action figure. 
I'm not a toy collector or anything (mostly because I have no space in the chaotic mess that is my room) but it was just too awesome, and the fact that it comes with a core drill that I can wear around my neck sealed the deal for me. Hi, I'm Jin. I am a dork.
I'm not even a mecha anime fan but sweet angry jeezus on a stick, I love that series. It's a bit embarrassing to say this, but I was gasping through tears during the last few episodes of the anime. Haha. 
Despite what others might have to say about it, I love the character design for GL (especially the grape hippos and crocodile bunnies and raccoon birds) and the agreeable sort of cheeseballs that come with names like Super Galactic Great Gurren. Now, if only I had a psycho banana bot King Kittan posable figure...
